> CITIES OF ASH - G39
A large scale installation using a tonne of circuitboards on loan from a recycling company.
Cities of Ash presents an immersive assembly of fantastical urban infrastructure, quasi-realism and psychogeographical reflection curated by Sam Perry.
From a distance the metropolis on the horizon is reminiscent of any modern city, up close a shift in scale makes the viewer aware of their own human form looming above what now is a macro world created by a tonne of circuit boards playfully constructed into a sprawling real life Sims City.
The redundant computer circuit boards are treated like building blocks and systematically joined to create a model like cityscape of component parts. The architectural consideration is machine like construction to dictate aesthetics - if identical and in quantity the parts are built up into towering vertical structures, and if unique and un-stackable the parts are placed at ground level and get overshadowed.
